Application Builder for Windows Embedded Compact 2013 update

Hi folks,

Microsoft just released an updated version of the Application Builder for Windows Embedded Compact 2013, both for VS2012 and VS2013. This update includes the “latest fixes as of March 2015”, however no details about the fixes are mentioned.

Even so it is not specifically stated, this should fix the issue that .dll files cannot be deployed in a C++ project: previously the deploy checkbox in the configuration manager for C++ dll projects could not be checked.

Windows 10 on Lumia: next preview will support a lot more Lumias

Hi folks,

The list of supported phones on the Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones (released on February 12^th) is unfortunately very limited. This is due to the fact that only phones where the system partition size is large enough for Windows 10 can be upgraded in-place.

In the meantime Microsoft has implemented a feature called “partition stitching” to dynamically re-size the system partition. This feature will be part of the next Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones supporting a lot more Lumia phones!

Unfortunately no date is mentioned for this preview release, but “we likely still have at least one more week of engineering to do” says Gabriel Aul from Microsoft.

The list below of the likely supported Lumia phones supported by the next preview release is preliminary and might be subject to change if a device specific bug is found or fixed prior to the next preview release:

The future of Windows Embedded: Windows 10 for IoT Devices Roadmap

Hi folks,

Microsfot has just made their latest roadmap regarding Internet of Things (IoT) publicly available at WinHEC Shenzhen from March 18^th to 19^th 2015.

As you will see Microsoft is planning to bring the power of Windows 10 to the embedded devices. Microsoft is planning to release 3 products for IoT devices based on Windows 10:

·         Windows 10 “Industry”

·         Windows 10 “Mobile”

·         Windows 10 for IoT devices

Windows Embedded Compact QFEs for February 2015 have arrived!

Windows Embedded Compact 2013 Updates:

Wave 1 (February 2015)

Windows Embedded Compact 2013 Wave 1 update is aimed to provide the customers an enhanced version of WEC2013 code base. It installs the fixes for all the below reported bugs.

Highlights:

·         Due to the large size of the updates, Wave 1 is released as cumulative product update. It will install all the updates that have been released since Compact 2013 was released publicly.

• For our customers with a previous version of Compact 2013  installed, the Wave 1 release will update your installation by removing existing content and installing the new content.
• Depending on your download speeds, the full acquisition of Wave 1 and installation may take several hours.
• Just like previous updates, the Wave 1 update can rollback to a previous update. This will take more time than usual as the previously release installation packages will need to be reacquired.

Important Notes:

• The windowsembeddedcompact2013_sharedsource_w1.msi is not available for download. If you have previously installed Shared Source, you will be asked to insert the disk in the source resolution dialog.
• The windowsembeddedcompact2013_sharedsource_w1.msi is not available from a Download Center WEC2013 Monthly Update. It is available on the ISO DVD image that is available from the following non-public locations Microsoft OEM Online, MyOEM or MSDN subscriptions. If applicable, you can also contact your distributor for the DVD.
• You can uncheck the "Allow downloading for all files" and browse for the required package in the ISO DVD to continue.
• If you do not have Shared Source component then all patches for other components can be acquired through Download Center.

Connect The Dots helps your devices to connect to the cloud

Hi Folks,

I wanted to give you a heads up that Microsoft Open Tech just initiated  a new open source project ConnectTheDots.io intended to help developpers get started with Azure services for IoT.
Just at its inception, the project wiki shows how to connect sensors (Arduino) to a gateway (Raspberry Pi) and a .Net MicroFramework device for sending data to Azure through Event Hubs, set up some alerts using Stream Analytics and display real time data and alerts in a simple website.

Intel Atom WEC7 BSP SDCard driver not compiling

Hi Folks,

If you are using the Intel Atom BSP, available for download from Adeneo Embedded website (http://www.adeneo-embedded.com/Products/Board-Support-Packages/Intel) with the Windows Embedded Compact 7 updates higher than March 2014, you will experiment build issue for the SDCard.

Microsoft folks have change the signature of the pSDIODisconnectInterrupt field of the SDCARD_API_FUNCTIONS structure. So function pointer to SDIODisconnectInterrupt__X is expected to be SD_API_STATUS SDIODisconnectInterrupt__X(SD_DEVICE_HANDLE hDevice) instead of  VOID SDIODisconnectInterrupt__X(SD_DEVICE_HANDLE hDevice)

This results in having the following error :
