The future of Windows Embedded: Windows 10 for IoT Devices Roadmap

Hi folks,

Microsfot has just made their latest roadmap regarding Internet of Things (IoT) publicly available at WinHEC Shenzhen from March 18^th to 19^th 2015.

As you will see Microsoft is planning to bring the power of Windows 10 to the embedded devices. Microsoft is planning to release 3 products for IoT devices based on Windows 10:

·         Windows 10 “Industry”

·         Windows 10 “Mobile”

·         Windows 10 for IoT devices

Windows Embedded search on MSDN

Hi folks,

as you all know, it can be tedious to search for Windows Embedded stuff on MSDN Library. You might find the following few pointers helpful:

1.       MSDN Library entry tiles contain the name of the product in brackets e.g.

a.       (Compact 2013) for Windows Embedded Compact 2013

b.      (Industry 8.1) for Windows Embedded Industry 8.1

c.       etc.

2.       mostly only the current version of a Windows Embedded product is revealed when searching the MSDN Library

3.       once a MSDN Library article is found for the current version of a Windows Embedded product, the URL can be manipulated to find the same MSDN Library article for an older version of the Windows Embedded product. Let’s see an example: We want to find the MSDN Library article for CreateFile for Windows Embedded Compact 7:

a.       a search for “CreateFile (Compact 2013)” reveals the following link: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee490417.aspx

b.      we can now add the version name of the desired version just in front of the .aspx extension, in our example “(v=winembedded.70)”: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee490417(v=winembedded.70).aspx

c.       et voila, we can read the desired MSDN Library article

MVP Summit 2013 3rd Day

Hi folks,

today I attended 2 technical sessions: one about the .NET Micro Framework and one about Kinect for Windows.

During the day, Nicolas and I also visited the Adeneo Embedded office in Bellevue, WA.

The day ended with the attendee party held at Century Link Field, with lots of activities such as singing along with a rockband, trying to score a goal against a real goalie, shooting Field goals,…

Yet again, this year’s MVP summit was a great and very valuable event – thank you Microsoft for making it possible. I am looking forward for next year’s MVP summit…

MVP Summit 2013 2nd Day

Hi folks,

today was the 2^nd and last day of technical sessions with the Windows Embedded product group. In the morning we got a lot of technical details about Windows Embedded 8 Standard – sorry I can’t disclose any of them, yet.

The afternoon was a face-to-face meeting with the entire product group where we could and did tell Microsoft our thoughts on the Windows Embedded products, the upcoming releases, the market… It was great to be able to provide feedback to Microsoft to improve the Windows Embedded products. The afternoon started with a lunch with Kevin Dalles – Group Manager for Windows Embedded.

The day ended with beer and pizza with the product group where we had further interesting discussions…

MVP Summit 2013 arrived

Hi folks,

After 15h of traveling, Nicolas and I arrived in Bellevue/Redmond, WA for the 20^th anniversary Microsoft MVP Summit.

The technical sessions with the Windows Embedded product group are on Monday and Tuesday – I am very much looking forward to the latest news around Windows Embedded Compact 2013 as well as Windows Embedded 8 Standard!

For now we are off to downtown Seattle for some touristy stuff like the Space Needle,  The Monorail, Pikes Place Marked, Smith Tower, Water Front and of course some Starbucks coffee...
